10 years after his last album, Eddie Fowlkes one of the creators of Detroit’s techno music and the godfather of « techno soul » - comes back with a new album called « Welcome to my world ».
Born in 1962, Eddie « Flashin » Fowlkes is - along with Juan Atkins Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson one of the Detroit’s techno music’s fathers.
He started to djay in 1981 in underground clubs and college parties. From the beginning, he’s always tried to add an emotion to the usually cold sounds of techno music by mixing it with house and soul sounds. This is how he has created a new musical genre : the « techno-soul »
His first success arrives in 1986 with his first single « Goodbye Kiss » (Metropolex), followed one year later by the worldwide hit « Time to Express » featured on the compilation « The Detroit Techno Sound » (Virgin London). During the 80s and the beginning of the 90s, he records many singles for such labels as KMS, 430 West and Play it Again Sam.
Like many Detroit successful producers, Eddie Fowlkes signs to German label Tresor Records with the local 3MB Berlin team (aka Moritz Von Oswald and Thomas Fehlman) and gives birth in 1993 to his first album « The Birth of TechnoSoul ». The next year, he releases another record « Deep Detroit Techno Soul, Vol. 1 » and starts to record music for other European labels like Infonet, Back to Basics and Peacefrog. In 1996, he releases his 3rd Tresor album « Black Technosoul »
Since the beginning of his career, Eddie Fowlkes has recorded and remixed more than a hundred tracks. He’s remixed among others the Pet Shop Boys, Moby, Goldie etc…and has worked with such artists as Moritz von Oswald (Basic Channel), Westbam, Juan Atkins, Blake Baxter, Thomas Fehlman….
